Attacks on systems come from three main threats, namely disgruntled employees,
so-called 'script-kiddies' and intentional Black-Hat Hackers.
|
Disgruntled Employees have the advantage of internal access to the network,
allowing them to connect to machines/services which are not directly accessible
behind the DMZ, they can also mine for passwords and spread virus's and/or
trojans.
|
'Script-Kiddies' are people who run exploits against batches of servers in an
attempt to take them over for no other reason than to control them, for launching
more attacks over more servers.
|
Black Hat Hackers, are experienced hackers, some working for money, others for
personal purposes, to take over particular systems which they decided are useful,
usually for data mining. These experienced hackers can cause massive damage, should
they want too, but normally slip in and out of systems, un-noticed, leaving very few
traces, and leaving themselves a backdoor to the system, to allow re-entry at their
whim.

Our services are designed to stop the above threats. We can conduct a 'Black-Box'
penetration test - where the client gives us little, if no infomation about the system,
and we go about penetrating it as would a Black-Hat hacker, from the outside-in.
A White-Box Hack, where the client provides us with full information of the system -
normally done to reduce time spent on foot-printing and scanning the system - again we
test the system's integrity from outside-in.

We also test the internal system integrity, this is usually done after the external
penetration test, or as a standalone procedure. Normally we do not even need a physical
presence inside your building to test, if you have a VPN or dial-up access.
